I love decorating for the seasons: Christmas, Easter, the 4th of July. Right about now at the end of October I know Christmas is coming near because I go to the box of scarecrows that usher in Halloween and Thanksgiving. My daughters and I loved placing these little figures all over the house. Our daughters don’t live here anymore but I want them and our grandson to see Hannah, Zack, Abe, Papa and cawcaw, Jo, Dit, Jewel, Allie and all the rest when they come to visit for Thanksgiving. Ohhh…the excitement! Just think, the day after Thanksgiving when our feast is done, we will pack these up and bring out the Christmas decorations. Only one box of goodies away from a favorite time of year. Shame on me, I am rushing things and getting way ahead of the seasons. I hope you enjoy these now.
My father-in-law used to name his cows for the visitors at the farm. There are still several of our friends here, unpictured and unnamed. Any suggestions? Oh dear, now maybe I have really scared you away.
Trick or Treat. btw, I do have a Halloween request. Please visit Lisa’s site to vote in the Caption #5 Contest, or visit The Good Greatsby to vote in this week’s caption contest. I love Lisa’s site and her wildlife inspiration is a lot of fun. I have never entered a TGG contest, but decided I wouldn’t be a scaredy cat this Halloween weekend. If you don’t have your own entries to vote for, please visit them and vote for one or both of my entries. It’s fun. It’s free. And, if it causes you to pause and submit one of your own, I’m glad you are joining in on the fun. My husband or I may even vote for yours.

Your enthusiasm is contagious, my friend … I love the holidays, too, & use to decorate like crazy. Since being alone for so long, I don’t even have my own stuff or my own place, but delight in helping the girls prepare their homes for their little ones … such a time of magic & excitement!! Love abounds!
Love certainly abounds in both your households. I love visiting you in both places. How wonderful the girls live just streets away from each other. Can’t wait to see the kids’ Halloween costumes! Pictures, please.
I don’t think I can top any of those names. I love this!
Awww….I kind of like the name Rufus. It has a good ring to it. We are always adding more. lol
I’m just going to print pictures of your photos — since I rarely manage to decorate any more. Last year at Thanksgiving a friend of mine commented that ours had the first Christmas wreath of the season. My husband responded before I could: “Does it count if we didn’t take it down last year?” Well, it is a multi-seasonal wreath. Trust me!
Haha…grab that tape and post them on the mantle, coffee table, bar and dinner table! I think it was the girls in our house that made our house festive. I miss them of course, but the memories and tradition continue. A multi-seasonal wreath…I think you’re on to something.
Oh, I love all your scarecrows. I’m ashamed to admit that mine are still packed away. I’d best get busy, or it will be Christmas time!
I’m practically skipping Halloween. I want to tell our grandson when I talk to him that the scarecrows are out. My mother is so excited we sent out the invitations for Thanksgiving two weeks ago…talk about early. Long story short, daughter #2 was in town and my mother wanted her in on the planning.
we are flying to the end of the year too fast as it is!!! good lordy!
I know. My bad. Can’t wait to see the kids.
I love that you’ve named your scarecrows! And they are so very cute hanging hither and yon around your house welcoming the fall holidays. The cold weather here today is making me think Christmas thoughts, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself because I think Thanksgiving should be celebrated more. So, you’ve inspired me to get out my Thanksgiving decor.
I’m doing Halloween and Thanksgiving the same decorations this year so folks probably think I’m a bit early. We do have some pumpkins I will put out for the trick or treaters. But by this time next week, all will be forgotten and I’ll be right with the season. Our friends in Denver had a snow storm last night and we’re still comfortable in the 70′s.
You know … you just made me want to decorate
MJ
Have fun. We’ll be singing “Monster Mash” this weekend, but don’t worry, no “Frosty the Snowman” yet.
I love how they all have names! Thanks for mentioning Caption This again – I appreciate the advertising.
Have a great Halloween weekend!
Thank you for reading. I do think your caption contest adds such a fun element to the blogs I visit.
I am always in the mood to decorate the house this time of year. My mom used to have the entire place decked out when I was a kid, so now I try to do the same for my kids. They get so excited (and I do too!)
It is fun. We add a scarecrow each year and now we have quite a variety. I think daughter #2 could take a few too to get her started in her new home. Once when she and her future husband started dating, it was around Christmas. I overheard them in the living room. She apologized for the mess because she was in the midst of getting all the decorations out, boxes everywhere. He answered, “Everything is so festive.” He won me over at that point. Especially when he used the word “festive.”
You are adorable!! I loved all your ‘stuffed’ kids. I cannot wait to ‘see’ your place during the Christmas season!
Thank you for going on the scarecrow trail with us. This is about as scary as it gets around here.
I usually decorate as well, but this year, I’m just enjoying those of others – like yours. Well done. Maybe next year….
I’m glad you enjoyed them. Thank you for dropping in.
Nice meeting your adorable and cute scarecrows. I love how you celebrate the hoilday. Always fun, imaginative, festive and best of all , with lots of love. I bet your Thanksgiving event this year is going to be a blast. Happy Halloween my friend. Best wishes to you and your family always. thanks for sharing …
Thank you. I must say we’re really looking forward to Thanksgiving.
I’m so glad I’m off this Thanksgiving….there’s something beautiful when you’re around your love ones.
That is wonderful for your whole family can sit around the table together.
Is Don Francisco the man who made your doll house in Mexico?
Yes, and I still remember how beautiful it was. Square with multiple rooms and a staircase with bannister. That memory defined when we left Mexico, because I remember it couldn’t go with us. He also made the doll bed that did make the move.
I’ve never been much of a decorator. I swap out the wreath on the front door and consider it DONE.
We love these scarecrows. The girls always had an eye for after Thanksgiving sales and we picked them up for at least %50 off. They continue to look for them because although we have a population of 20 or so, we don’t have enough. And then, as we downsize, I’ll let them take some away this Thanksgiving.
