On Mother’s Day I remembered our beloved Leakey (pronounced La-key), our English cocker who was retired from the show ring. Her pedigree papers name her Brazos River Spectrum of Color. Some of you commented that you were expecting fields of flowers …
Well, on Mother’s Day, Rick did send me a slide show of pictures he has recently taken with that amazing smart phone of his. So I thought I would share this Brazos River Spectrum of Color.

Beautiful photos! How sweet of Rick !
He’s all stressed out right now about our upcoming church musical “On With the Show” (he made a fabulous marquee, has words and dance moves to learn) bless his heart…so I was especially relieved and touched that he’s taking in the view, too. Just a trip to the country brings him back happy and smiling.
Marvelous! I was especially excited to see that prickly poppy in the middle of the show – any idea where he found it? I’d heard there were some along Hwy 6 between here and Waco, but if they’re more toward the Houston end, I might go searching this weekend.
Did you happen to see Steve’s comment on my rabbit festival post about the bluebonnets? Their Spanish name is conejo, the word for rabbit – perhaps they were given the name because that white tip is reminiscent of a bunny tail. In any event, I can’t see a bluebonnet now without thinking of a bunny rabbit!
I did see it and loved that he cited your post, as I recognized his reference. I will have to ask Rick and get back to you. For right now, I can safely say 290, Hempstead and Bellville area. You know the title of this post was derived from your comment.
That’s good enough. Hempstead/Bellville’s an easy day trip. I’ll have to see if I can get away – even if I don’t find the flowers, there’s always the Bellville Meat Market.
Ahhh…you do know the area!
Wow, that really is a smart phone! When the contract for my dumb phone is up in a year, I’m going to look into the iPhone. Don’t really need it—I just WANT it”
I am amazed at the quality of the photos…lots of pixels, Rick says. I let him futz and putz around with a smart phone. For right now I truly am content to have my samsung when I’m out and about or need to send a text. Both daughters have suri…just too many options for me to process. But then about this time last year, I didn’t care about Skype and by the end of the year we had Skyped Christmas with daughter #1 in CA.
Beautiful!
The yellow one is a hibiscus from the farm. The rest are wildflowers. Texas roads have such great color. I’m thinking blueberries week after next.
I have FaceTime on my iPad and my MacBook, which is kind of like Skype but only for Mac users, and it is so much fun. I have a Skype account, too, but haven’t used it because nobody else I know has Skype.
hmmmm…did not know the Mac counterpart. My mother has a Mac…we need to teach her to use this feature as she misses the family between visits. Matter of fact, she returns from another visit this weekend after attending granddaughter #4′s graduation at VA Tech last Friday. (Michelle Obama spoke.) Now let’s see…we were talking smartphones and I end up with MO. Yes, I think it would fun to visit you. We would have a lot to talk about.
I’m putting fresh sheets on the bed in the guest room right now, Georgette!
omg…I would love to fly out soon. Check your e-mail, comingeast.
The beach is waiting!
Well, I guess it just has to be summer. lol We’ll see. Thank you so much.
i just love the primrose. one of my favorite spring texas blooms.
I wanted to name them in the textbox below each bloom, but found I could only name a few. I bet Steve at http://portraitsofwildflowers.wordpress.com/ could. If you don’t know his website you just have to bookmark it. It’s a veritable reference of TX wildflowers, at least the ones in the Austin area.
What a wonderful slide show that is…the flowers are so lovely and Rick putting the energy and care into creating it is even more special…. : )
Thank you, I will tell him. Do you know about Smilebox? I love it for greeting cards, summarizing events for the family or friends, and it makes scrapbooking easier for some pages. All the embellishments are already in the giant print I can get printed at Wal-mart.
Oh my…I didn’t know about Smilebox….I just downloaded it and it’s fun!…thanks for the idea!
So glad you know about it now! You are definitely the person to visualize the possibilities. Our grandson watches them like our girls used to look through photo albums.
Lovely, Georgette. Does this mean the rain is falling in Texas?
Yes it is, by golly. We’re 6 inches ahead! How’s Charlie? You all are in my thoughts.
Charlie is home with Daddy. I had to go to my boss’ house this morning. I’ll pick up Joe at school and head home soon. He went to the doctor this morning, and his pneumonia is not improving. He has a new antibiotic, which he’ll take for 3 days – in addition to the one he was on originally. We go back to the doctor tomorrow. Thank you for your thoughts, Georgette.
I hope he gets better soon. I remember daughter #1′s two bouts with pneumonia.
Such beautiful flowers! You’ve inspired me to go work in the garden!
Except for the oleander and hibiscus, the rest are Texas wildflowers. Only now I really appreciate the wisdom of Lady Bird Johnson in bringing attention to them. They are showstoppers. You’ll see cars lined along the interstate with folks taking pictures of clumps of them.
Neat! You two are so high tech. I’m impressed.
Smilebox is easy. With all these weddings you can share wonderful scrapbook layouts for showers, rehearsal dinner, before wedding, etc. There are lots of options and you can even place a music track in them. It’s free unless you want to upgrade with more options, ie., more embellishments, more music choices, placing your own saved sound tracks. If you can do wp you can figure out smilebox.com by Hallmark. They can be shared via e-mail or you can select certain pages to save as a jpeg, print and use for a printed scrapbook page. I make these for our grandson and he views them just like the girls used to view photo albums. Only they are digital albums!
Lots of pretty flowers! Thanks for sharing.
I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Great photos. Ricks really talented. My smart phone is too smart for me. Good luck…er I mean…break a leg to Rick in the upcoming show.
Thank you, Barb. Rick has the smartphone, I’ll keep my little samsung. I’ll have a follow-up post on Sunday as to how “the production” comes out. I’m very proud of his marquee, though…great advertising in the Great Hall with the lights turned on. Tight budget…no neon lights, no blinking, just well picked out, colorful, well placed, firmly attached rope light. And, yay, for gorilla glue for attaching the wood letters.
Rick sent you a series of beautiful flowers inspired by a heart that loves you so much. As I watched the flowers unfold, I thought of my mom. For a moment I wished she was just close by so I can give her a hug. Have a blessed day my friend.
It’s nice to give virtual hugs, isn’t it? I hope you can send her an e-mail greeting giving her a virtual hug.
