I visit my husband’s blog on tumblr to see what he’s up to. I chuckled when I saw this post from last month.
He said, “Played golf last saturday in Dallas Texas with my son-in-law. Was a typical hot summer texas day, about 95 degrees and low humidity. As we were finishing our round I noticed some large birds on the fairway ahead of us that didn’t seems to mind that we were approaching them, first with our golf balls hit from the tee box, then our golf cart as we approached them. I was thinking they were local tame ducks or geese. Interestingly they turned out to be Canadian geese, that decided to summer on the lake and the ponds on the golf course.”

A friend of my husband scored a hole in one here. I guess the picture is his memorial to the memory.

Oh, my gooseness! I can totally relate to Canada Geese. They are not the “cleanest” of visitors!
So cool that your husband has a blog! Thanks for sharing with us!
Gooseness, Dianna! You make me laugh out loud this morning.
He likes to take pictures and has a flickr site, too. What drives me crazy though, is one can’t leave comments. Imagine that!
Geese from the male perspective! Nice! Do you two compete for topics or are they wildly different? If my husband blogged, it wouldn’t even be close to anything I blog about. It would be all outdoors, all the time! LOL.
haha…male perspective indeed. Seems like capitalization and punctuation is not that important to him. No, we don’t compete for topics. We don’t even read each other all the time. I think he has left two comments on my site. One was for “Those Giant Binoculars” and the other one was on “The Ship Captain and the Finger Bowl”.
We in the east have been inundated with Geese for years. Which would be fine if they didn’t poop quite so much. That said, I still love seeing them fly above me in formation!
You’re the second person to note they are…well…messy. I thought it was amusing my husband was amused. Since I don’t play golf it was fun to peek into the possible hazards I hadn’t even considered.
I strongly recommend wearing old shoes when you do it!
cute. and i like your method of ‘spying’. ha ha!
He gave me permission to reblog it and he’s a bit shy. (You would never know it though, to meet him.) So, no, I didn’t write his URL.
Oh, those Canadian Geese, Dianna is right, they aren’t the cleanest visitors! They used to descend on a pond near my parents’ home and “visit” their yard….had to watch where you stepped. I bet they left quite a few “presents” on that golf course.
Oh dear. I’ll ask him about that. He didn’t mention that part.
I cannot imagine too many of them are left in Canada…sure are lots around here!
You’re probably right, W’bella. (I hope you don’t mind the abbreviation.)
They may have been Canadian geese, but they seem pretty tame. I do love hearing the geese fying in the fall, although the past few years it seems their flight path has changed. The drought and changing agricultural patterns, I suppose – less water and certainly less rice. I suspect these birds are living the good life, like marina mallards who know those tall, lanky creatures are a good source of bread.
This golf course is right by a lake and of course, the golf course has ponds, so there lies the attraction, I bet.
I’m happy to see that the golf course management are tolerating the geese especially as they aren’t the cleanest of guests.
The guys just seemed tickled with the company.
Georgette that gives new meaning to a birdie! Love it! My FITFS today is you my hero!
Yes, we’re hosting your birdies this summer going into fall.
About the FITFS…what, what, what?…I’m speechless. Thank you!
ah Canada Geese. I love the sight and sound of them. We were blessed this summer to have one stay in the garden for a few days as he healed from an injury to one of his feet.
What a blessing he knew he was safe there. I’m sure you fed him, too. I wonder what could have injured his foot. a bite? a bad landing? a sharp object? an infection?
Could be he got too close to a snapping turtle. His foot seemed a bit sideways. Each day though his walk was stronger and truer. He rested in the garden and practiced walking around the field for a few days then lifted off to swim on the pond. I named him Golan.
As in Golan Heights?
I don’t really know. names of animals just come to me and that was his.
I do know that geese are messy, too, so having them on a golf course is maybe you the desire place? A fun post, I like the way you play with words and pictures. And they are all very nice pictures. Enjoy the nice summer temperatures. Where I am right now we are down to 45-40 degrees.
Otto, I’m glad you enjoyed my little photo story. I thought the presence of these birds on the golf course was very amusing…an adventure of sorts. It’s still very hot here but the rains and fronts that come through tell us fall is trying to knock on our door. Love it when the rain comes and then the temperatures become more moderate. Have a lovely weekend.
I truly enjoyed your husband’s post and adventure at the gold course and with the Canadian geese. His words are direct to the point with a perfect aim of an irresistible humor. Best wishes to you and your family.Have a beautiful weekend!
haha…I’m glad you enjoyed it seeing the adventure in it. I thought it was a bit out of the ordinary and very amusing. You have a wonderful weekend. Guess where we’re going this evening? Galveston! I think when we go I will think of you and your family, and all the adventures you find there.
That is so funny, Georgette! Congrats to the buddy on the hole-in-one! Watch where you step!
haha–I thought the geese were cute and unexpected. Then EVERYBODY advised me of what comes with them.
