Several baby showers were bestowed upon daughter #2 this summer, each one as thoughtful and creative as the one before.
Besides the color blue and knowing it was going to be a “BOY”, there seemed to be another theme running.
“Where did you get such a cute idea?” I asked one of the hostesses about the invitations. Answer: “Pinterest”
“Where did you find such an adorable tree?” Answer again: “I found it on Pinterest.”
“…and the motorcycle made with diapers?” “I copied it from a picture on Pinterest.”
“What a great idea to make giant confetti.” “Pinterest suggested it wouldn’t make such a mess.”
“How in the world did you carve his name into a watermelon?” “Pinterest!”
“The banner with his name. How cute!” “Yes, I found it” you guessed it “on Pinterest.”

“The pom-poms are so colorful.” “We found them on …”

What didn’t and doesn’t come from Pinterest…
are all the answers on the baby test.
Why? How? What? are much to be learned.
“Why is he crying?” “Is he hungry or cold?”
Just listen, he’ll tell you…or perhaps he’ll scold.
“But what do we do if he doesn’t poop in two days?”
Really don’t know…it’s pro’bly a phase.
Pinterest could never carve out his name.
You and his dad will give him his fame.
Stitching the blankets, burp cloths and sampler.
No, not from Pinterest, nor the dairy farmer.
Waking you up for that past midnight feeding.
Is that Pinterest calling? No, it’s you always heeding.
Changing those diapers. Um…You might try Febreeze.
No worries now, you’ll soon do it with ease.
Can Pinterest do everything and more?
No, my dear, but we know you will score.
Pinterest did bring a lot of love and well wishes.
The wishes on the tree may be the greatest of riches.

Loved the wish tree and the love behind it! What a sweet and thoughtful post, Georgette.

I was so amazed by the outpouring of creativity, blessings and love. I’m glad you liked the wish tree. When I looked closer there were several different cards of sentences to fill out.
so thoughtful and those sentiments will be treasured for many years, especially when those who wrote them pass on. What a unique idea!! Also loved the confetti idea… That little one has much love surrounding him, that’s for certain.
MJ
Each card said so much from the family member or friend who filled it out.
What sweet ideas Georgette! Large confetti is a brilliant idea. I still have occasional sightings of confetti from New Years, 2003 when it got caught in ceiling recesses and beams.
haha–New Year’s 2003–that was a rousing party. When daughter #1 had our first grandchild, I gave her a shower at our home. I bought bags of blue confetti hearts to decorate the buffet table. One day in the foreign language lab at SCHOOL I saw something shiny on the floor. Oh my lord, it had to have come in from my shoe or clothes! It stuck around forever reminding me of a fun afternoon.
Pinterest sure does offer a plethora of creative ideas – my girls got bridal shower ideas for each other there too! But Pinterest can’t touch this adorable and oh so special poem written by Grandma!! Love it! ♥
Thank you, Mama. He’ll be a month next week and it took me a while to bring all these thoughts together. These Pinterest Productions were lovely. My daughter has such wonderful friends who expressed their love in every detail. This grandma can’t thank them enough.
Wonderful wonderful ideas! I am not a pinterest user but so many are. A great way of sharing!
Chris, nor am I on Pinterest. But I don’t mind living it vicariously and enjoying the results after the research, execution and lovely follow through. I’ll leave all that to my daughters. Aren’t these fun and amazing ideas?
Loved this poem! Well done. Cute ideas, too.
I recently caved and joined Pinterest but so far, haven’t found the time to really make use out of it. I’m sure it’s a great resource. Maybe if Pinterest could teach me how to make some more free time?
I’m glad you “got” the pome/poem.
I just went with it and hoped readers could distinguish whose voice was whose. ahhh–free time? Thank you for spending some of yours with me, SAM.
really cute. glad someone’s using pinterest (i refuse to give more time to the internet!)
Agreed on that. I’ll live it vicariously and leave it to the really creative ones.
The poem is excellent!! The creativity throughout this post is amazing, Georgette.
Thank you, LD. You are so reassuring! Glad you could follow it.
Love the poem!
I have had similar experiences with confetti: well, one was with tulle. My friend’s daughter was married in our yard in 2009, and for a long time, I found little snippets of white tulle out in the yard. Then, in March of this year, the bride’s hubby asked if they could give her a surprise 25th birthday party here at our house. I’m still finding little tiny pieces of confetti. Each one makes me smile, and brings back memories of a fun time.
I haven’t tried Pinterest – once I heard how addictive it was, I decided I should steer clear of it!
You are so wonderful to host your young friends for such memorable occasions. The fun is in the planning and then in the doing, isn’t it?
On Pinterest, daughter and I look at her board, and I’m not hooked. I can’t spend any more time on the internet than I already do.
The wish tree is such a great idea. It’s nice to see people using their creativity. I’ve not gotten interested in Pinterest, either.
I loved the idea of the wish tree as soon as I saw it. And when I saw there were several formats and different questions, it made the reading of the cards even more interesting. They will be wonderful messages for the baby book.
A lovely, wonderful poem and those cards bearing wishes are the best. They have a bit of the same feel as my mom’s autograph albums. They’ll be fun to look at in the years to come. I had to smile at one – the handwriting evoked those “Palmer Method” days. I can’t believe he’s nearly a month old – in no time at all we’ll be seeing his first birthday pictures!
Clearly, Pinterest has a lot to offer, but when I’ve stopped by there I just get confused. There’s so much – and nothing really seems necessary to my life, so I’ve just let it be.
But that big confetti is the best idea ever! It reminds me of Necco wafers – one of my favorite penny candies as a kid.
I loved that not many of the cards were duplicated as we filled in the open-ended sentences. Each message had it’s own personality.
I did love all the cursive handwriting. It’s interesting how so much of what I write on the whiteboard must be in print for it to be easily communicated nowadays. It didn’t become a problem until about my last five years teaching in high school. I had never really had complaints of people not being able to read my handwriting, but then it became pervasive–the not being able to read, not complaints
–almost like not being able to read an analog clock as many prefer digital. I did like to write feedback on student compositions and would revert to cursive in handwritten notes–remember how we cherished the messages our teachers wrote? But it just didn’t have the same impact when students asked me, “What does that say? I can’t read your handwriting.” Goodness!
The big confetti was bold on the table in its primary colors and festive. I agree, it was perfect.
I heard a radio news story just in the past couple of weeks about students who weren’t able to sign applications for work because they couldn’t write their own names. There are times I think texting is a tool of the Devil.
Now that is a problem I haven’t encountered, thank goodness. I do think students need computer skills and I think they need to write. I require assignments typed from assignments online, and handwritten compositions/essays.
What a beautiful poem, Georgette. So sweet — and true! Looks like a lovely baby shower. And I’ve checked out pinterest before, what fabulous ideas they have. We’re going to do a smaller Christmas this year and I think that “I wish” tree would be such a nice addition. Have all the relatives fill the cards out for the kids, and I can save them to read when they grow. Did you share the poem with your daughter? I bet she loved it.
Oh how generous my readers are who could follow the poem and understand the message! Thank you for reading.
haha I remember a comment you made on another site, (I hope you don’t mind if I paraphrase) “OK…count to three, and back away …!” I have heeded your words and really stay clear of it, and just enjoy watching my daughter and friends have so much fun with it! That they use it to give it full expression to their ideas and feelings is wonderful. They really connect with the ideas and positive energy it foments.
I love your idea for Christmas. You could add to it every year marking the different years w/ different card designs and shapes. I think I will surprise grandson #1 with such a tree when they come in this year from CA. I will mark my calendar right now to remember to do this. I always enjoy your visits and enjoy your comments here and on other sites.
My favorite authors are on Pinterest – even the deceased ones! Go figure. Even the vintage book covers. I’m getting smitten a bit myself. I didn’t know these kinds of things were there though, but will definitely be checking them out for future reference. I did find lots of unique table settings and a friend’s daughter is learning to cook by recipes she’s finding there. I think it is the new and upcoming place to be! Thanks for the ideas.
Authors? hmmm…I really don’t have a clue what’s there I guess. When I go to Dallas next week I’ll have to ask my daughter what other kinds of things you can find there. I’ll be checking out authors and books.
I’m on Pinterest. I see its usefulness, but your post, for the first time, explains its value, making the best case for it, in a way that not even Pinterest has been able to do! If I weren’t already on Pinterest, I would sign up today. Wonderful post! Sounds like a fun baby shower, too.
Thank you for visiting and reading this baby shower and Pinterest-themed post. There was lots of laughter with each gathering and all the ideas were delightful. Kudos to those young hostesses. Thank you for pointing to its value.
I would agree that anything that helps us find full expression in all the thoughtful details has value.
Pinterest is really amazing. I love all these. Very cute!
Thank you. Credit goes to the hostesses of these showers. Thank you for stopping by.
Yes, it’s mostly in Pinterest. My wife is into it too as so are my lady friends. Me…still with WordPress! Great post with wonderful photos.
No, I’m not on Pinterest, IT. (smile) But I certainly enjoy listening to what everyone finds there. I’ll let them do that.
Precious blog – precious Pinterest ideas as well. Looks like a lovely set up & celebration … thanks for sharing!
You’re home? Did you have a nice time in the hill country? Thanks for reading about this. We had fun times this summer waiting on baby.
Hi Georgette,
I enjoyed reading your poem. I don’t think you’ve shared your poetry very often with us? Lovely sentiments…. and a great sense of humor.
I’ve also never visited Pinterest – I don’t have time for anything else. It certainly looks as though one should go there first when planning a party!
Thank you, Rosie. You’re very generous…really…I would call it a rhyme. I’m with you on Pinterest. I will leave it to the young hostesses while I continue the traditions.
