The drought left a lot of dead trees. My husband has cut down three, three have just fallen over and now he has his eye on four more that need to come down. So during these winter months when it’s not so hot that the work is unbearable, he has been trekking to the farm to put his chainsaw to work. There’s clean up to do clearing that fallen timber. He has to cut the trunks into logs so he can manage hauling them to the burn pile.
He likes the quiet in the country but sometimes he needs a little interaction. He carries his phone with him all the time and yes, he tweets on Twitter. This log just spoke to him. So he answered back with a message.
As he showed me the picture of his handiwork that he carved out with the chainsaw no less, he asked “Do you think I could put it at the entrance under the mailbox?”

Howdy!
“Sure, dear”, I answered, “people will know an Aggie* lives here.”
**********
Look what else he caught a slice of that day. A prism in the sky!

*Aggie – a graduate or student of Texas A&M who “whoops” at the sound of the word aggie or said university; alumni and/or students who greet each other with a firm handshake and/or “howdy”

Love the “howdy”, love the thought of it at the mailbox, and love the sundog – I noticed it in your header and forgot to say something about it. One of my all-time favorite science sites has a nice section devoted to halos and such – you can see the sundog page here .
Thank you for the link. I will definitely share with Rick. I am glad to know about such things…a sundog…hmmm…I added it as a tag. Thanks.
Yes, a “howdy” at the mailbox is a grand idea! It makes me smile even throiugh cyberspace and I’m not even an Aggie. Love your stunning sky photo too.
It does say “Welcome” I think and if the gate is open, drive on up. It also waves at passersby.
We had sundogs last week when the day was so cold and sharp – around 8F. There was one on each side of the sun, nearly a ring, very high in the sky
“Howdy” is so welcoming, what a graet idea to place it at the mailbox!!
MJ
PS Another howdy your way. I sent you a “smilebox” via e-mail of the story of the cake. It was a hit!
Thanks so much.
Neat
thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed it!! MJ
Every last bite. I had so much fun pouring, I completely forgot the topping — silly me — still, sinfully chocolatey.
A perfect “welcome” sign! And what a sky!
Shoreacres and Emjay both pointed out to me, it’s a sundog. hmmm…the first I’d heard of this phenomena.
btw I directed a friend to your blog last night. Thought they’d be interested in what you have to say.
So cool!
Thanks for the referral — I have a new visitor today called Tuttacronaca — is that him/her? I haven’t yet investigated their blog.
No. He doesn’t blog, but he reads a lot and has opinions. I left him turning the thought over in his mind about blogging.
Thanks!
I just checked out the one I mentioned — It is European news. Quite interesting actually — and it’s in spanish (but there is a translator right there, which was pretty cool).
Have a nice Sunday!
I just took a peek, too because you mentioned Spanish, and saw Italian.
Have a great day — hope your team wins if you tune in this afternoon.
i think his message is sweet! and i like your sundog, too.
Thanks so much. I’ll tell him. You know, all your fence and entry gates have been an inspiration.
i was thinking of that up at your mailbox. here it would just get stolen.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll advise Rick, yet I don’t think he’d mind carving out another either. He was so cute when he critiqued his own work saying “I couldn’t get the roundy letters that well.” Yep, I think he’s challenged to get the roundy letters if there’s a next time.
i think he could sell ‘em.
LOL!!! So he can carve his phone number into the next log?! Love it and yes, I’ll tell him your thoughts.
He’s very crafty with the chainsaw! I had to laugh at the title of this post. Something you don’t see everyday. Hope you’re enjoying the weekend, Georgette!
lol…thanks for chuckling with me and welcome to Aggieland. Have a good weekend and I hope your team wins if you’re watching today.
I’m sorry that you lost the trees but I love the creativity. Seems like your family has plenty of that. Bravo!
Thanks, Renee. Glad he’s working on them now before summer.
Yay! We get to see the ‘howdy’ and your hubby’s handiwork and his great photo too!
From comment to post, yes mama, here it is — tada! (wink) He did it last weekend and on the same day captured the “sundog.”
That prism in the sky is a great capture. It’s a like a jewel in the sky.
Love the howdy too – good work hubby
Thank you, WFFME. I’ll tell him. He came home yesterday after another day of work and got more pictures. I’m curious what he has to show me this time.
Too cute!! Love the sky prism … what an unusual & beautiful picture!! I love his log equally … shows his spirit!! XO
He does have spirit. lol
Love it! And the sundog (that I wasn’t familiar with until Marshall schooled me!). I think it’s such a treat to see one.
Thanks, Dianna. So glad you enjoyed it. It was shoreacres and emjay who pointed out the sundog to me, so it was definitely new to me, too. How fun for you to learn Marshall knew about them already.
It’s amazing some of the things he knows! He’s always surprising me!
So cool when we learn from our children. I’ve read some of his comments when I sometimes follow up at the end of the day — he is very in tune with his mama and astute.
I saw one of those sundogs in the sky above Austin the other day. I see plenty of ordinary dogs on the ground here every day; if I saw one of them in the sky I’d really be surprised.
What a week of sky gazing — from contrails to sundogs. Have a great day.
What is it with men and chainsaws? Something about the loud noise and awesome, destructive power. How fun to use it for a greeting like this!
lol…He is always ready for a chainsaw project and the drought certainly provided that! A chainsaw is pretty necessary around the farm with trees falling, drought and tornadoes over the years. Yep, Rick is pretty friendly, even with a chainsaw in hand. Thanks for reading about our chainsaw activity.
I admire your husband for his simplicity, love for family and great admiration for nature. This images captured the many surprises of nature. Oh, and he tweets too. That’s cool. Have a great day my friend.
He loves to go out to the country and he always takes his camera. Have a great day, IT.
He is quite the talented woodsman! How sweet that he asked about placing it at the entrance, and your reply.
I love the unexpected surprises he brings home in his camera. I can’t go with him as often as I’m working a lot these days.
