Many recipes, more than I can cook come to my blogging home, but I save many to a “go to” file as needed. Two found fruition this weekend. As I went grocery shopping I carried two of the recipes with me so I would be sure I had on hand what we needed to prepare them. My husband and I needed a healthy distraction from the preoccupation of the fires affecting friends and acquaintances. So I turned my thoughts to cooking at home, not venturing out into the haze and smoke.
We like to go out for Mexican food on Friday nights, but this Friday I chose to mix up the tasty ingredients of MJ’s “Salsa” that she posted last week on her site “Emjay and them” to enjoy some Southwestern fare at home. It lasted throughout the weekend for before dinner munching and finally I served it up as an aside with our crab cake dinner on Sunday.
Rufus’Food and Spirit Guideoffers a mediterranean and seafood cuisine that suits our family tastes. Last week Greg and Katherine, the hosts of their site, posted a delicious recipe for crab cakes. Yes, I thought, we need some seafood to lend variety to the chicken, pasta and beef I routinely prepare. So crab cakes it was for Sunday dinner.
Thank you to MJ, Greg and Katherine for adding just the variety we needed throughout the weekend. Although they may seem spicy, they were flavorful and not too spicy. They were exactly what we needed. Please click on the links that will take you to some wonderful recipes. Try ’em you’ll like them.
Looks like a great meal! Thanks for the shout out. We do love our Old Bay, what can we say, we grew up in Maryland. Off to check out the salsa.
My mother brought the Old Bay back from VA for me in June after you told us about it. Then…go figure…I did notice it in my Kroger.
Everything looks yummy!
Oh it was…and different.
That’s far more ambitious and appealing than the tuna sandwich I had for dinner last night. Yummy.
Tuna is good. Did you put eggs, pickles and celery in it? I like it with “crunch”. 🙂
Hey there! Glad that you enjoyed the salsa and mmm on the crab cakes, gonna have to try some. And even up here in MI I have seen the “Old Bay” on the shelves .. never knew what it was for before now though .. hee hee.
Cheers! MJ
Go visit them. They use Old Bay a lot.
I LOVE Old Bay. I was introduced to it in college — a New York girl going to school in Baltimore. Everything looks delicious–I’ll definitely be trying the crab cakes!
Then you will love Rufus’ Food and Spirit guide. In addition to the recipes, they are so cordial. Cool. Fun to know you already know about OB.
Those pictues are making my mouth water, it all looks soooo good! My husband is a salsa fanatic. I love crab cakes, I haven’t attempted to make my own in a long time. I’ll have to check the recipes out. Thanks. 😀
You’re welcome. I know you’ll like them.
Yum, Georgette! Known about Old Bay but my kids don’t appreciate it as yet…but what a perfect Sunday dinner!
It was. I hadn’t thought to make crab cakes until I was encouraged by the recipe.
I’m glad to see that you used the recipes of your blogger friends. The end result looks really delicious and best of all we got to read how enjoyable that whole cooking experience was. I hope to do one someday. I love to eat too and try food from different cultures. My wife cooked some ginger chicken yesterday from her mom’s recipe, it was really good. I’m not so good with talking about food but maybe I’ll share a simple dish someday. Thanks for sharing. It was a joy to read them.Best wishes to you and your family.
New England as well as the Gulf Coast and the Pacific Coast do seafood well. I’ve taken to preparing tilapia lately and when I saw the recipe for crab cakes…I thought I’d surprise my husband. He enjoyed them plus I wanted to use that Old Bay I learned about on something else. It really adds the right spice to fish, seafood and even chicken. And the salsa…it made so much, it lasted the whole weekend as something to munch on, healthier than a dip made from sour cream or those jars of salsa. I thought I would post the two dishes to let my blogging friends know, yes, I really do read. But still I have recipes galore yet to be made. Have a lovely weekend.
