One year ago over Labor Day weekend I started this blog.
“Do you really want to post on the internet?” I was warned.
“Hey, I’m careful. I stood in front of class after class of high school kids for thirty-three years + four more years of college. I think I can handle this, ” I countered.
Isabel Allende comments in her book The Sum of Our Days, “It’s hard to have a writer in the family.” For years I had lived a life of discretion, respectful of my visibility in the community and the job I held shepherding their children in our Child Zone. I was very mindful of being the role model my position exacted out of me. So I left one comfort zone to create another one for me, my family and the profession I love. My Happy Zone has evolved into forming relationships with folks who venture out to express what they see in this world through their words, pictures and actions. They see the beauty around us with a naturalist’s eye. They take life seriously and not so seriously. They remind me of young motherhood combined with a commitment to make a difference. They remind me of all the challenges that lay ahead in the life of one still in their 20’s. They share their dreams in their respective roles. They grew up with me in high school and show they believe in me like Patrice and Mo-Jo do by reading and commenting on my blog or fb. A shout out to Patrice whose birthday is this Monday.
Is it hard to have a writer in the family? One year ago, my cousin requested a special birthday greeting for her mother, my aunt, in her 90’s. Now that wasn’t difficult. It was an invitation. I wanted to write and create something that not only she could read, but would bring other family members to remember her throughout her birthday month.
So this month, on her birthday I remember my aunt who celebrates another birthday and we wish many more. Please click here to learn about the influence of this woman on me, my family and her students.
This was my second blogging post a year ago and it brought two comments: one from my mother and another from my aunt’s daughter. However, the number of views on my site and family comments tell me that many more family members shared in reading it…and, liked it. This is about the same Tía (aunt) who helped me find “The Clock”that I wrote about a few weeks ago. I am pleased to share my second blogging entry again now that more family and friends are aware of this blog of mine that shares family stories.
Please return for my next post that tells an amazing story Tía revealed to me. I have sat on that story for decades and I’ll be ready to post it Sunday.

happy one year blogiversary!!! it is so funny how we start our blogs for family and a few friends, then find out most of those folks won’t ever comment or even sign up to follow you. it turns out, bloggers from across the land and world find your blog and become your most captive audience. 🙂
I love connecting. And I have connected with lovely and talented people like you! Thank you for your inspiring photostories. I love them!
I genuinely appreciate the fact that you are sharing your stories with us. Thank you.
I so much appreciate you get what I’m doing. I’m looking forward to the day they’ll become a printed collection for family.
Happy blogversary!
Thanks. How long have you been running?
Way to go!
Thank you, LeRoy. I only post twice a week now. When I started it was only once. So my next event will be 100 posts…that would still be a few months away for me. I’m in awe of how you post daily! Amazing!
Happy Blogaversary! Great accomplishment! I’m so happy to have discovered your lovely writing–your posts are always a treat to read!
Thank you, Jean. So glad I met you this year. I enjoy keeping up with you. I hope you can read that second post. She is one of a kind and among my favs.

Congratulations. What a meaningful gift to give.
Thank you, Viola. You certainly understand. You gave quite a gift in writing about those who lifted your spirit up at such an early age. Your book is a treasure for you, your family and friends. I must say the care you gave to choosing the quotes that precede each chapter are spot on.
I think a lot of people don’t realize the courage it takes to reveal yourself through your writing, especially when you know your family will be reading it. Happy Blogaversary and many more : )
I have many stories I can tell, but I can’t get past my family on some. Probably in the family book, I will include them. My well is not dry yet. Thank you again for reading and commenting. I hope you can read that second post. The first ones, especially significant to me, bubbled up first., obviously, but were the first I wanted to write about. It wasn’t until April that I truly began to connect with bloggers through commenting.
Happy first anniversary to you, Georgette! Thanks for sharing your words with us. I look forward to many more years of stories!
Thank you, Darla. I love having met you, if only recently. I don’t know which I enjoy more…your comments or your posts. Your questions for Ba’D are perfect and make me look forward to his posting even more. Love your son’s question! I hope you can read that second story I refer to. It and others propelled my start.
Happy Anniversary!
I’m so glad we’re blogging friends. Your writing style is so pleasing, and you’re definitely one of my most loyal readers/commenters.
My one-year is approaching next Wednesday, and I’m still pondering what to post…..
Thank you Dianna. I’m glad you don’t mind my “stalking”. I admire your consistency and quality, …all you find mostly in and around your home…you don’t miss anything. All those papers I have graded and returned within a day or two, 37 years worth, I hope give you insight to my practice of reading and commenting. Yours and a few others…I hardly miss. No pressure, OK? If you ever need to miss…this reader understands. This has to be our happy/safe place, don’t you think?
I’m excited to read Sunday’s post, and so glad you stepped outside your comfort zone! I really hope that, as a result of that stepping-out, we’ll be able to meet in December. 🙂
oooo…I still have a way to go. I still need to write that post that germinated from your RP post. I’m very carefully thinking out the path to that one. But it’s a story that must be told. Thank you for stopping by. Did you read the post about Tía? As I edited it from last year, I was thinking “Deb had some amazing high school special experiences.” Who were your mentors in that (was it?) marine biology experience? What did you take from that? When you told us about that…I could connect it to your earlier interest in medicine.
Happy blog-a-versary, and congratulations. I’m glad to have found you in my short time blogging, and that you’ve found a new comfort zone. I read your post regarding your aunt. What a rich life she has lived, and shared so willingly with others. And now I see you carrying that tradition forward. 🙂
Thank you, Patti. With the fires, I had to postpone saying something about it. But then I decided to couple it with wishing my aunt a happy birthday…and said phoooey to the fires. I mentioned it in a comment a while back and I believe you picked up on it. You were so sweet to notice back then in a comment…but today/yesterday I made it a belated post. Have a wonderful weekend you weekday blogger. I don’t know how you keep up the pace…I can only muster 2 maybe one a week.
Happy Blogging Anniversary. I have been at it less than 2 months, but I love writing, and the love the camaraderie of bloggers. I just hope I’ll still have something to say in a year!
Thank you for visiting, reading and commenting. I’ll come right over and visit you. Have a wonderful weekend.
(your comment this morning made my day! thank you!!)
I’m glad. You are deserving! Your site is a wonderful place to visit. btw Thank you for the blogaversary comment…somehow I hadn’t read it all…there are two boxes in wp to read comments, a smaller one and a larger one. Well, I must have read from the smaller one…anyway…I so agree with the “rest” of your comment. Funny how we can put this material out there for family and friends, but it’s the rest of the world who really reads…except my mother, bless her at 86 who is among my top 10 commenters 🙂 Have a lovely weekend.
Good morning Goergette, i saw your comment on Kathryns post. You asked how to save your pecans from squirrels. The squirrels are going to be hiding the nuts. So put pipes close to the tree, pvc pipes big enough for a squirrel to squeeze into and he will pick your pecans for you and deposit them in there for you to collect later.. Hope this works for you! c
Thank you so much! We will get on it next weekend when we return. I can’t thank you enough. Can’t wait to get the pvc and tell my husband. I will update you.
Happy Anniversary; well done!! 🙂 MJ
Thank you, MJ. It’s so very nice to have met you back in April. I laughed when you commented once, “Thank you for reading, commenting and doing it over again.” Thank you for the same.
Hear, hear, and a toast to you, Georgette! I started one about a year ago, too, and feel so blessed to have met folks such as yourself.
I’m going to click on your aunt’s story now…:)
Congratulations to you also! Interestingly I have met quite a few people such as yourself who started fall of ’10. Thank you for reading. And I’m glad all this family lore doesn’t bore.
