Have you gone to your local pumpkin patch lately? Daughter #2 sent us these pictures marking GS2’s visits to their local patch.
What a difference a year makes! A month ago we attended his first birthday party. The event was was a “l’il man” theme with moustaches and bow ties everywhere. Maybe Pinterest is just a little bit responsible for the ideas, but my daughter executed everything with spirit and love. It was a joyful time.

I can feel the holiday spirit coming when we can spend another visit with the latest pumpkin in our patch before the end of October.
Just yesterday I drove past a church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, that had the biggest pumpkin patch I’ve ever seen, outside of a farm. Granted, there weren’t any children around as cute as your grands, but not everyone can be so lucky!
Fall has arrived in the midwest. The color in Oklahoma was just beginning. There were isolated patches in the Arkansas mountains, but Missouri is beautiful – and cool!
Thank you for your “postcard” comment from the road. I enjoyed reading your comment at Steve Schwarzman’s blog regarding visiting the Crystal Bridges Art Museum. I’m sure you will tell us about it all in due time. You make me want to make a drive up there and check it out on the way to visit a friend in Missouri. Stirrings I feel.
I saw the title of this post and told A, “We should take D to a pumpkin patch!” I only got a raised eyebrow at this point, but I will try again. I want to do my own comparison pics. 🙂
These patches have something for everyone: photo ops, train rides, food, the opportunity to speak to people about “who knows what?” I know you will start your own traditions that work for your family and help your children connect with others in a safe and fun way.
Remember when A and D ran ahead of us to point out all the creatures of the sea painted on the sidewalk? It’s fun to give them a place where they lead the way and we can follow.
YES. Fun and joyous in so many ways! Thank you for those sweet memories. ♥
hmmmm…More memories in the making with your next pumpkin to come.
wow, what a fabulous celebration your daughter put together! I am missing seeing fields of pumpkins this year!
Thank you, Joss. She loves festive moments and draws from the child in her. This mother delights in the details she comes up with.
Orange pumpkins just tell us fall is here, really here. I guess gourds and squash are Native American, and not like the potato that was carried over from the New World to the Old. You remind me how much I loved the delicious pommes de terre, in the form of pommes frites. Interesting that the potato made the cut. 🙂 Squash is so good in soups, salads and cooked. So much enjoyed your poem this morning.
the cake and cupcakes were adorable. very cute. 🙂
I still remember GS1 grinning as he held his chocolate moustache on a stick under his nose. I’m not as fast with a camera like you. I only caught him not smiling.
Wow,lovely photos.Belated wishes,May god bless him !!The way he sleeps in the first pic is so cute 🙂
Thank you, Praveena. He was just a month old in the ’12 picture and his eyes were wide open on his second visit.
I marvel over your daughter putting together such a special gathering. Phew! Must have taken lots of time that she obviously filled with love and enthusiasm.
Georgette, I use the Reader to access posts on subscribed blogs. I switched to a Mac and gave up Outlook so this was not a welcome choice. Your blog confirms I’m “following”, yet I seldom see a post from you on Reader. Perhaps some become buried in the folds of other blogs that are posted frequently…
I miss your excellent writing!
You just may be noticing that since early September I have only been posting on Sundays. I cut the Thursday post because (1) I’m initiating a new textbook (2) am learning the online lab that has layers of preferences and settings that goes with it (3) my consulting job has changed their online software — more to learn (4) my online class is also, implementing a new online learning environment. Talk about a meteor shower or Halley’s comet of onslaught. I love my job, and yes, next semester will be easier. Oh yes, we’re preparing to move on top of everything else. oh dear…tmi? Thank you for your kind words. They’re appreciated now when I think I’m neglecting our community.
I’m still marveling at your friend’s gift. White thread on ivory cloth…not easy on the eyes. I try to squeeze in cross stitch projects as long as these eyes hold out. I broke down and bought a magnifying glass with lamp…it became necessary.
Cheers, my friend. I’m glad your cat has perked up. I seem to remember your serving up chicken thighs as needed.
Way to go, Georgette. I’m still studying, too. Don’t know if you knew I passed the Justice course I took from Harvard. Thoroughly loved it and cried with joy when I passed.
I’m now studying a course offered by Barbara Marx Hubbard – one of your futurists. She’s highly mystical and pulls on many quality resource people. She tells us (we’re global) we’re going to be busy. We’ve got work to do – using our gifts.
So, I love this part of retirement! 😀
Yes, this is a time of fun choices. Congratulations on the justice course! I followed your stories on that project. I’m so proud of you! It sounded fascinating. I know you will fill us in on Hubbard’s course. I still have Future Shock (remember that book?) on the paperback bookshelf. I consciously have saved it all these years to read again, along with Loren Eiseley’s The Immense Journey and Arthur Koestler’s The Sleepwalkers in a later decade of my life. Goodness, there is a lot to do. I know you feel like me, very blessed.
What a sweet side-by-side of the little guy. Adorable!
Thank you, Elyse. I was delighted that D2 dug into the photo files to create just this one. I’m not so sure I was as organized back in the day.
btw Did you see Dylan Ratigan’s rant on MSNBC?
No. I will go look at it. Somehow I assume I will be interested/amused/enlightened!
Amazingly, he’s not being met with criticism which is not in short supply these days.
I just finished watching it. I don’t think that Obama has either the authority or the popularity to do what Radigan is saying he should do. The President is not supposed to be a dictator (although the Right accuses him of that constantly) — Congress and the Supreme Court are the checks and balances on the power of the Presidency.
I think it is for the Prez to lead — speak, shout, etc. and for folks in Congress to do so as well. To make the choices clear. And it is the duty of the citizens to listen and make informed choices. Sadly, they aren’t.
Although this appeared two years ago, the other man on the panel pretty much interjected what you said. As Ratigan ranted on about the president, he inserted “…and Congress”.
I had to look it up on YouTube — he did another one in the midst of the shutdown (at least I think that’s when it was — the index said “5 days ago.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-AqQU6A_8U)
Yep, that’s the one I saw and I thought it was current…then, reading more I saw others dated two years ago…sorry for my momentary confusion in the last comment.
No problem!
My how your sweet post went downhill!
Oh dear, shall I delete all that? Still, I thought of you when I watched and wondered what your take would be.
I don’t know how many people read the comments all the way through! I’ve often wondered. Now maybe we’ll find out!
LOL 😀 So true!
Cutest little pumpkin in the patch!
And I love the first birthday party decor…
Thank you, Dianna. 🙂 Have a great rest of the weekend!
What a precious party theme – everything is adorable! Can NOT believe he’s a year old already … where does time go?!?! Still missing you, my friend, & hoping we can grab lunch one day before the holidays begin!! Love you!
Thank you, Patrice. I’ll tell her. And I can’t believe the twins aren’t babies or toddlers anymore! They are so grown up in the photos. We will get together. Just a very busy term with three new online environments to learn as I go. Gulp! Can’t believe they all implemented the same term.
Bless your heart, Georgette – had no idea you had all that to do this term … know you’ll handle it all perfectly though. Will still say a little prayer … what a blessing you are to your students & all of us who are lucky enough to have you in our lives.
Thanks, Patrice. You’ll have to come see the house after the contractors leave. I’ve really enjoyed sprucing things up. 🙂
What a fun birthday party! Your grandson has grown into a little man. I love pumpkin patches and we have some greta ones around us. I must get oit and take pictures before it’s too late.
A sea of pumpkins is so beautiful from the road.
I LOVE the party theme! What a clever idea and everything looks cute. I particularly liked the chalk board sign by the refreshments. Don’t you just love Pinterest for all the ideas it sparks? Cute baby!
Thank you, Monica. I love that Pinterest focuses on the details and that hosts and guests alike enjoy them so much. Nothing boring at all!
Huge pumpkin growing in front of a house a street behind us! Biggest one I’ve ever seen outside of a farm! Happy belated birthday to the Little Man!
Thanks, Frank. Would love to see that pumpkin. Surprise on Oct 31 with a photo.
Aw, I miss trips to the pumpkin patch with the kids. Your family’s little pumpkin is adorable, by the way.
Thank you, Cindy. We have two pumpkins now. Wonder what next year may bring.
Beautiful picture. Belated birthday wishes to the little man. I came to know significance of pumpkins in your country during this time, only after I started blogging. I hope you are ready for the festive season ahead. 🙂
haha…pumpkins covering a patch or field are beautiful. Many place a pumpkin by their front door just like a Christmas tree in the living room in December. Thank you for the birthday greetings. Blessings to you during this season and all seasons.
Love the pics. There is something magical about pumpkin patches. The colors alone is a visual feast.
Thank you, IT. It’s a tradition to go in October and very soon green trees.
