I love my grandson!
My grandson always usually says the right thing. He and Mom decided it would be best if he came over on Sunday afternoon as she went Christmas shopping. He just couldn’t come along for that. I told her “Sure. No problem. Your dad has gone to the country to bring back more wood and check on things. And, I’m probably going to get THE tree in the afternoon. I can use some help with that.” We knew he would like that and then I added, “Also, I need to go to the grocery store since your dad hasn’t eaten anything but pizza, spaghetti and lasagna with my work marathon the past two weeks.”
“ooo, Grandma, …I love lasagna,” GS1 said.
Isn’t he great?
So the realtor called. “We’d like to do an Open House on Saturday. Is that all right?” “Well sure, if you think there may be house hunters.” Note to grandma: No need to get frantic. The tree is ready, there’s wood for the fire and the pantry is full.
Update: December 20, So realtor texted “I’m still working on the open house. Might be a hard weekend as so many people are leaving town. Might be better the weekend of the 4-5 of jan. when people are back in town.” Whew! Something told me “No need to get frantic.” I think I’ve lived a few years.
Oh, goodness! Too much going on: I would definitely be FRANTIC!
I couldn’t believe the Open House proposal! Apparently, people are shopping for other things besides Christmas gifts. Thank goodness D1 is coming tomorrow and D2 on Friday night to help… and then I’ll just recite the Serenity Prayer.
I can hear you telling yourself to breathe! Here’s today’s song for you “it is well, it is well with my soul”.
I’m humming it now, Joss. Thank you.
me too! š
Georgette, I’ve been there done that with a house on the market during the holidays. What’s a little more craziness, right? Have a wonderful Christmas š
When the realtor calls with house hunters, they say to bake cookies so the house smells of oven fresh baking. Sooo…add timely baking to the list. The week old cookies just won’t do their job…except taste good. Thank you for the “wonderful Christmas :D” wishes as the prophecy of your recent post comes true. I appreciate knowing you’ve been there, sold it and moved on. You too, have a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks, Georgette! Don’t knock yourself out baking. You can put a little dab of vanilla extract on a few light bulbs and turn the lights on. It smells almost as good.
Wow…you mean I don’t have to make that home brew on the stove of cinnamon sticks, orange peels and sliced apple…then, remember to turn the stove off? You are a life saver and have possibly saved the kitchen from catching fire at this busy time of year. I do like making the pot of Christmas scents…but perhaps not this Saturday. Thank you, Lisa.
You’re welcome š
An open house at this time of year??? Hmmmmā¦.I am glad that you are calmā¦.I am not sure I would be. Lovely tree, btw.
I will do what we can do and as I mentioned earlier read the Serenity prayer. So glad both daughters will be around.
Sounds like you have it all under control!!!! I am sure you will do great!!! Time with family is priceless—enjoy!
š Thank you for the positive thoughts and your confidence. Merry Christmas, Beth Ann.
Oh dear! Yes, keep reciting the serenity prayer, and I’m sure all will go well for you. I’ve been reciting it daily recently myself, it seems. Sometimes we expect more than we need to of ourselves, especially during the holidays, rather than just enjoying this special time of year and those we are with. Guilty as charged… again. š
By the looks of those wonderful cookies at your site, it looks like you are keeping up. Nice job and thanks for dropping in!
Mercy! Open house at Christmas time for prospective buyers, who knew? I always thought Christmas was a very slow time for house selling, but maybe this will provide an extra special Christmas gift for you & your husband. No matter what, I know you will handle it all with graciousness and calm nerves. You’re a real trooper, my friend!
Mercy is right, mama. Really I was good on the phone with the realtor…pats self on back. And then, when I hung up I immediately called/texted my mother, D1 and D2. It’s hard for me to say “No” or “I think we’ll pass on this…um…er…opportunity.” Ya never know.
Well, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you (and saying a little prayer too!).
Thank you, so much sweet friend. And thank you for the lovely Christmas greeting.
You are so very welcome! š
My favorite bit of advice from Varnish John: Start where you can start, and do what you can do.
A corollary from me: Do what you can, and not what you can’t.
Amazing how the fewest words sometimes contain the most wisdom! Now, if only I could take my own advice! š
I like both pieces of advice, short and wise. Thank you as I assess where to start and what I can really do.
An esteemed colleague of mine once told me, “You know, good enough is good enough.” I liked that he shared that with me, because it reminded me to stop and pause. So occasionally, I give myself permission to slow down as I replay his words. Of course, I don’t operate like that all the time. Sometimes we just have “to do what it takes.” When the girls are challenged I may interject, “sometimes you just have to do what it takes.” That’s just enough advice for them to gauge the level of effort required.
the tree looks great. seems like an odd time to have an open house, though! hope you get lots of traffic!
thanks, Theresa. We have a green tree this year after flirting with flocked ones several years in a row. Oh it smells fresh, and the pine needles feel soft with their freshness, too. I agree, it (the Open House the wknd before Christmas) does seem odd. But…we’re trusting the realtor right now.
We too have a house on the market, and I’m surprised as well that people are shopping for houses. I chose not to decorate for the holiday. Looking at your lovely tree, I wonder if that was a good decision. Good luck on the open house.
Oh, good luck with your sale, too! It seems we’re always in a state of constant alert to be sure things are washed, picked up and put away.
I hope your school term ended well. Say what you will about earning a good grade, that post your blogging friend paid you had to have been just as sweet. Isn’t our community so nice and supportive? Enjoy the between term rest now.
Beautiful!
Thank you, Elyse. It usually takes us about three lots and several hours to find THE tree. We found this one at the first lot and were home in 45″. It was a record for tree hunting.
You’re so cute ā¦ of course all was in order!! XO
He really helped me with the tree finding the saw in the garage to trim the lower branches. Then, we tried to stay out of each other’s way while I strung the lights and he put the train track together. He finished first! Have a happy weekend making pre-Christmas memories.
What fun to buy and decorate the tree with your grandson! You are very brave to have an open house at this time of the year. Good luck!
Update: So the realtor called last night and said maybe Jan 4, 5 would be better for him, too many people going out of town. (shakes head) Now what did I title this? Oh well, the house will be quite presentable for holiday company.
Your efforts were not in vain. All is now ready for your guests and you can relax and enjoy the season!
The best part. We’re all here by the fire and enjoying every movie together. May you and yours too, have a realaxing Christmas.
https://www.createspace.com/3914969 – may work better for book. Love the train around the tree. A tree ainta tree widdout a train.
Great…thanks for the link. š
Tis the season for confusion, mayhem, and yep – joy! Beautiful tree. š
Let’s add to the craziness, “N’est-ce pas?” Joyeux Noel, to you and yours, Dor. š
As beautiful as your house is, especially with the lovely tree, an open house might be just the thing to show it to best advantage. I know it adds stress, but the warmth of the holiday, the smell of the tree – and whatever you’re cooking which I’m sure smells divine – could give your house the advantage. Keep calm and play some soothing music. Merry Christmas Georgette!
You really put things in perspective. We do our best for family, so of course, it’s a good idea.
How nice to have help with your tree–and a reprieve from the open house!
This house is a happy family disaster right now. Baby monitor on the side table, water bottles and coke cans piled into the kitchen waste can, one dishwasher load behind with dishes in the sink, kicked off shoes in front of the sofa, stuff on the stairs that needs to be carried up, and Christmas cards displayed on the book cases, etc. Yes, thank you Mr. Realtor for the Open House reprieve.
Whew, what a relief. Less stress is always a good thing, and the holidays are stressful enough without an open house hanging over your head.
Absolutely. Isn’t that the truth?
Enjoy yourself, Monica, and have a restful and peaceful holiday. š
